How about that - Yes, I'm bragging a little

Small city, local paper, but I was still excited. I've probably written five letters to the paper in the last year. Their Senior Editor has become a supportive friend. If you're interested in the paper itself, I included a link in the title of the previous post.

The Sun-Star, when I moved here, was almost a throwaway. Very conservative and very little news except for that copied from AP. That was almost 13 years ago. They changed owners a couple of years ago and shifted gears. Now they're owned by the same company that publishes the Fresno, Modesto, and Sacramento Bee's. I'm not sure why we're not the Merced Bee but the Sun-Star name has been around for a while.

The letters seem to run about 50-50 pro and con on the various issues. And yes, I've received some flak but nothing too hateful. What surprised me was the support I received after my first letter, about Iraq. People came out of the woodwork that I never would have thought of as progressives.

I wasn't sure if it was going to run today or next week. Our Saturday paper is a weekend edition with most of the extra features. They called me yesterday morning for the photo and were going to email the questions immediately. Immediately was late afternoon - they sent to the wrong email address. I finally emailed my friend and she tracked it down but I threw those answers together in a hurry. There are a couple of typos but oh well.

Girls going to birthday party at the park today - Rochelle and Rebecca probably. Barbecue and probably a pinata. I'll hang around long enough to see what kind of a party it is.

More later. I still need to finish checking email and do a few things around here.

Good for you! I'm not surprised your letters are printed - you're so articulate.

Feel free to post your letters here too.

You SHOULD brag!

I love that they profiled you (and am glad that they included a pic). Gary's right, you are articulate. I love that you stand up for what you believe in, even if the general population in Merced views things differently.

Hi Ann,

Congradulations! That's wonderful!

I tried to leave a comment last night but blogger was acting up on me too. I even switched computer, as we are lucky enough to have two, but to no result. Dang! But today no problem.

I think it's wonderful you have taken an active roll in your Merced community, and in the blogger community too!

Congrats again on the inview and being published!

Loving the picture!

I tried emailing you but I think it isn't working properly: we're having problems with our phone lines and our entire office call system is dead.

Anyhow, as I said in the email I sent twice and you still may not ever get; well done! Congratulations!

And like 'susiebadoozieqzee' (did I get that right??) said: wow! I know a famous lady!

I am so proud....
