So How Come I'm Not Sylphlike?

Calorie-burning activities

Proper weight control cannot be attained by dieting alone; however, many people who are engaged in sedentary occupations do not realize that calories can be burned by the hundreds by engaging in strenuous activities that do not require much (or any) physical exercise.

Here’s the guide to calorie-burning activities and the number of calories per hour they consume.

Note from Ann: The boldface items describe the way I see myself although I'm guilty of all of them (except climbing the ladder of success) from time to time:

Beating around the bush . . . . . . . . .75
Jumping to conclusions . . . . . . . . . 100
Climbing the walls . . . . . . . . . . . 150
Swallowing your pride. . . . . . . . . .50
Passing the buck . . . . . . . . . . . .25
Pushing your luck. . . . . . . . . . . 250
Making mountains out of molehills. . . 500
Hitting the nail on the head . . . . . .50
Bending over backwards . . . . . . . . .75
Running around in circles. . . . . . . 350
Climbing the ladder of success . . . . 650

Thanks to Michelle, a new blogger, cat lover, and Autumn's sister. If you click on Autumn's blog, you'll find a recipe for lemon squares.

Rebecca's hair has been rebraided and she's in the process of picking the braids out of Rochelle's. She may have hers redone tomorrow. They're tolerating them much better than I would.

We're heading into another heat wave. They're talking 108° in Fresno which means 106° here by early next week. I hope they're wrong.

Ray is still doing quite well and seems to be tolerating the heat better than I. I've been dragging around. My nose is raw under my glasses from sweat (isn't that attractive). Hydrocortisone clears it nicely but it comes back. Very annoying. This is the first year I've needed glasses full time. When I wore them for reading only, I could stop reading and give my nose a rest. Now I just take them off to bathe and sleep.

Rochelle was weeping at the kitchen table tonight abut missing her old school and starting a new one in August. I was comforting her and pointing out the tissues. About that time the smallest kitten hopped up on her lap and she giggled and wiped her nose on the kitten. Eww!

Elcie's had a couple of good days in a row. My daughter took her to Farmer's Market early this evening and she found a bracelet she liked. She came home, got wet under the hose, and took a long, cool bath. Then Carol trimmed the edges of her hair. Got rid of the deadwood and evened it up a bit. It looks wonderful.

Rebecca just presented me with four little characters from Vacation Bible School. A coyote, a cactus, a jack-rabbit (female), and an elephant left over from last year's Safari theme. She wanted me to put them on top of the computer but they keep falling into the keyboard.

Hi to:

Lee-Ann, a retired carpenter and granny from Victoria, Australia.

Cassie, a 16 year old who makes purses out of multi-colored duct tape. Madcap, take note!!

Jon, a 19 year old from MN who uses other people's trash as sculpture. He has some interesting photos on his blog.

Friday's Child, a mom from the Philippines with an extremely artistic blog. When I met her the other day, she was hosting a virtual birthday party with all the trimmings.

I hope I didn't miss anyone.

Thanks to all for the comments. I know I've missed getting back to a few of you; especially when I don't have email addresses. No problem - just takes a little longer and I have more time some days than others.

Midnight and finally cooling off. I must think of something to talk about other than this lousy heat.

Take care everyone.

That paragraph about Elcie made me super happy. I'm glad she's getting out with Carol, and that she seems to be enjoying her self.

And a cat is not a tissue! Ew! There is no way I'd still have those braids in. But, if it gets super hot, it might feel good to have their hair off their necks.

I think I need to go to bed, I'm misspelling every other word!

Hope the weather cools up for you. It has been warm all day and tonight the fog rolled in so thick you could feel it on your skin. This is part of why I moved here. Heat and I haven't been on speaking terms for a long time.

Hello Ann ~~ I am glad that Elcie is having some good days, and the other two
seem to like the braids. They look very
uncomfortable to me. Glad Ray is going
well, now if it just wouldn't get so darn hot. Is Carol feeling better? I hope so.
Take care, Merle.

Whew...108? Lordy.
Its hot here...near 90...but boy...I can't imagine dealing with temps in the 100's right now.
Merry and Kelsey would be absolutely miserable!
I may let them play in the hose today...we'll see.

Take care.

Hope they're wrong about the weather!
I'm sure if you get that hot, we're going to get part of it. Right now we have lots of fog and it's wonderfully cool...
(don't mean to rub that in)....

Hey, I'd rather my kids use the cat instead of their sleeves. At least the cat can wash itself off. ;)
Hang in there thru the heat! I would certainly melt. As you know, 85 is considered hot here. Actually, anything without snow is considered hot here. ;)

ooh, but I bet the braids are good in the heat! Getting hair off your face makes such a difference.

Hi Ann,
I had my youngest daughter when I was 39, and I know how much harder her growing up years were, so I think you are amazing the way you manage with the girls, I hope one day they realize all that you have given them and I dont mean, things.
I wont tell you how cold it is here.
hugs jacqui

i wish i had the money to come down there and install an air conditioner. you should not have to tolerate that sort of heat, especially with Ray being sick.

We'll hit 90° today, and, with the humidity, that's plenty hot enough for me. I was absolutely soaked cutting the grass yesterday.

Ugh, yes we are supposed to be about 100 today ourselves, I think we'll just hang out and watch movies.

Yes, and as for making mountains out of molehills, I would consider myself a pro, so why do I still need to lose weight? ;)

you have had quite the hot weather this summer! we might see upper 80's by Tuesday... and the south may get up to 90!

global warming???? or just a hot summer?

Hi Ann:-) I think they're finally done on this street replacing all the cables...first time in almost 2 weeks that my internet and tv haven't been down for hours on end each day! It never went down at all today...yipppeeee!! I can't even imagine how you are handling that kind of heat...it's in the 90's here right now and we're not used to that so not handling it too well!! The girls seem to like the braids and I'm sure it's keeping them cool, instead of having the hair thick on their neck! Glad to hear Ray is doing better each day:-) Take care!!

You know you should do a week on, week off routine with that hydrocortisone, right? How about a dab of cornstarch? Can you get some kind of sweat-absorbent pads for glasses? If not, let's invent some and get rich and start our own non-profit organization.

33C here today... that's... 94ish?? Hot, anyway. Spent much of my day in a parking lot, so it felt much, much hotter!

Ann I hope you're staying cool. I didn't leave home today and the air has been running since yesterday morning after the husband got my permission to do so :-)

Does playing the fool burn calories too?

I hope Rochelle likes her new school!

Keithen starts his new school next week. We're lucky, because with his little sister starting KG at his old school, he'll at least get to visit there a lot and see his old friends.

Hi Ann,

We're suppose to be 105 tomorrow--too hot!

I've been invited over to YGF house to go swiming, and that sound really good right now!

She actually rubbed her nose on the cat? Poor cat, not to mention her pwn nose would be covered in cat fur.

I'm glad Elcie and Ray are doing better.

Well people do say that animals can sense when we are upset so maybe the kitten sacrificed his fur for a giggle.

It doesn't get as hot here but we have the humity. I sweat really bad and am drenched just walking into a store unless I get to park close. Glad to hear the heat isn't bothering Ray as much.

I think I would like your work out better than going to the gym!

I hope the heat lets up soon and that Rochelle starts to feel better about her new school.

I was a bad employee I think hehehe

Glad Ray is doing well, cant imagine anyone handling that heat well. ughy!!!!
Take care please.

Will visit more often. Cheers to another week.
