12 Hours Later

I wrote this last night but Blogger wouldn't post. Trying again at 6:00 a.m.

8:30 p.m. and still waiting. I doubt they'll call now.

I phoned the doctor early this afternoon. They thought he'd been admitted and were appalled (as they should have been). The called back to tell me Ray was 2nd on the list and it shouldn't be more than an hour or two. That was around 3 p.m.

I'm trying to remain calm; Ray seems to be doing fine, but inwardly I'm seething. Couldn't they at least have called? I can understand emergency admissions taking precedence but they could have let us know. Still not a word.

In others news. I went to coffee with my two friends today. My new blogging buddy Chuck seems to be a great guy; much younger than his chronological age. We had coffee and then went over to the recreation room where he lives to listen to a pianist accompanied by Chuck on the harmonica.

The guy was good - cocktail lounge music right out of the forties. Gershwin, Porter, and others. He has a huge collection of sheet music and each week brings a different letter of the alphabet. Today was songs beginning with the letter "I" as in "I'll Never Smile Again", etc. I was a little young for the war years but still I know the big band music and the romantic ballads very well.

It was great fun and quite different from the way I usually spend my days. I felt a little selfish but I needed the break. Ray was quite comfortable with his sci-fi and probably appreciated the quiet.

Ran a few errands; daughter was home and Ray had his phone right beside him so I wasn't worried - I was five to ten minutes away driving depending on the cooperation of the Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe which runs through the middle of town. No trains today and I made more than one trip back and forth across the tracks.

Elcie's run into a problem at school (too tired to explain tonight). I talked to her teacher, her teacher will take action but suggested I call the Principal as well. I'll email for the record . Briefly, the person who is supposed to do nothing more than help her off the bus and to her classroom has taken it upon herself to read the notes I write to Elcie's teacher about medical issues, progress, etc.

That will stop. There were other issues as well and the teacher didn't sound too surprised.

And now it's past nine, I have two new Law & Order shows one after the other if I can stay awake and silly blogger can't keep up with my typing.

Take care everyone and thanks again for the encouragement. I'll answer as many as I can.

I think it's awful that the hospital still hadn't called when you posted this...makes you wonder what our health care system has become. Glad you were able to get out and sounds like fun, spending time listening to big band music...I like some of it myself:-) Hopefully the problems at school for Elcie will work out..that person certainly is being very nosy!! Hope your night is a good one! Hugs!

Hi Ann, Glad you could find a little time for some entertainment, no need to feel selfish about it, I don't believe you have a selfish bone in your body.Having a break like that is great for re-fueling and recharging the batteries so to speak. Take care of youself. Cheers Margaret.

Who does that woman think she is? I would be furious!

And, incompetence at the hospital is always aggravating and sometimes life threatening. I am sorry you are having to deal with the frustration.

Hmmmm, hope you've heard from the hospital by now. It's an indictment of the health service when this sort of thing happens. It must be spreading because we have the same sort of thing here in Australia and I know they do in New Zealand, too, as my mother is still waiting for her operation.

As for the person reading what you had written to Elcie's teacher - all I can say is that she is letting her responsibility to Elcie go to her head. Bit of a cheek, though.

All my best wishes to Ray. Take care, Ann.

You're kidding me? Why does she feel that it's acceptable to read the letters that are obviously not intended for her. Grrr....I would be so upset. Did she think you'd never find out?

I am glad Ray is doing okay. It's a shame what is going on with the hospital though. yes they should have atleast called to let you know something.

It's good that you got out and indeed it sounded like a wonderful time. You NEED some relxation also you know. Like I should be one to talk. So I'll stop.

Oh Ann I sure hope you are getting some rest and that Ray continues to feel well.

Thinking of you Ann!

I remember 'I'll never smile again ' so well. You need a few more breaks like that Ann. Your health service doesn't sound much better than ours - which can be first rate for emergencies and sometimes very bad for the run of the mill complaints. Don't bother to answer this Ann - I know how busy you are and wish you could rest more.

Well, hopefully it'll be today for Ray. Isn't there another hosptal? That's crazy!

Your day out sounds nice. It's important to take time for yourself.

I'm surprised they wouldn't do a direct admit through the ER or even outpatient clinic.
We belong to the very large HMO here in CA. That is how they handle admissions (at least in our town)..
Hope they decide to evaluate him soon!

Dear Ann ~ So sorry they are messing about at the hospital. Just as well Ray is feeling better, but still needs to be
assessed to find out what was wrong. Glad you had an outing and the carer for Elcie will get straightened out, no doubt. No need to answer, when you have so much on your plate. Love, Merle.

Ann, I have put Ray in my heart and send off little prayers throughout the day. As I am about to walk (need to keep that blood pressure under check and so do you, try to not seeth!!! I know, it's very hard to do) I'll think of you both too. Isn't it too bad that we're not a closer circle so that we could hop over for some hugs and hang in there squeezes? You'll have to do with a virtual version for now, from experience, I know how a situation like this can feel you so anxious inside. Good for you to try to take a break (Ray needs you too ) and good for Ray to just 'chill' as much as he can watching scifi! Hopefully he'll be in the hospital today and they'll have scifi on tv there too. Wait, for a second I thought it was friday ..friday is our (including the kids)Stargate Atlantis night.. big hug and hang in there squeeze for Ray too!!
love
Ingrid

I can't believe you guys are still waiting! Hoping things go better today. You sound remarkably sane considering the amount of stress you are under right now. Hugs to you.

I'm glad you took a bit of time out for yourself. You are the centre of your home there and a bit of time for yourself is not selfish- keeps you going. :) I hope all works out for your Elcie too. Sleep well.
I have been busy this end and am trying to catch up with all of my blogging friends.
BESTS AS ALWAYS
