Silence and Reflection

I've read many beautiful tributes over the past few days and I've been trying to put something together that would do justice to this anniversary. I keep hitting a blank wall and finally decided to remain almost silent.

I kept the girls out of school on September 11, 2001. Not out of fear but because I wanted them close to me. Family seemed more important than ever that day and I wanted what they heard to come from me.

We talked about the twin towers and the destruction a little today. We said a prayer for the families and for peace.

I'm going to leave it at that and leave you with this:

If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.

- Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

I love that quote and it's perfect for a parent's, grandparent's or great grandparent's overwhelming prayer...

Formal or not, a nice piece about keeping the family close.

I think your post is beautiful!

As well - I remember the day so clearly. It was almost the last time that I had my last office job in the US... so odd for me in too many ways... But everyone at our office was in shock to say the least!@

personally that has been the best tribute I have seen so far.

Sometimes less is more. You have said it beautifully.

My daughter and I had visited the World Trade Center just a few years before 9/11, and we were horrified to sit here in Vancouver and watch the devastation.

I've never seen that quote before, but I think it's just perfect.

Can't remember where I saw that quote before but hey, that did the job Ann. I too had trouble coming up with something but I decided to keep quiet. I remembered 9/11 while I sat on the sofa by myself this morning. I am too wrapped up in my darkness right now and can't deal with anymore. I'm a little selfish today.

Dear Ann

That quote speaks to all of us. As for saying nothing - that speaks volumes and I can totally understand you having the girls with you for the day.

Hugs

Dear Ann ~ A lovely simple tribute and
it was nice you kept the girls with you
on that sad day. The quote is really nice too. Must go to bed, it's 1 am
but wanted to say Hello. Take care, Love, Merle.

Hi Ann...I'm trying to catch up on all the posts I missed while I was away. I've now caught up with yours...glad the girls are ok after that B.B. gun incident!! Like you said, it could have been so much worse...some people just don't have any common sense!! Sept. 11th is a day we will indeed never forget...I remember every second of that day and the days that followed. I was worried about my son in Toronto...he works in the city and they were on high alert. Hugs!!

Ahhh... I knew thomas paine sounded familiar... not from elem school, tho! we had to read "common sense" and learn about him in american lit in college!

The man's criticism of the christian church caused his downfall:
"Paine discovered that his contributions to the American Revolution had been all but eradicated due to his religious views."

The man that helped spark the fire that led to the revolution and the birth of our country, that proports relisious freedom, was shunned because of his own religious views.

Thank you for remembering him in this troubled times. It gives much food for thought.

Less is more most definitely,a lovely tribute.

May a peace arise, from ground zero state
To banish terror and all conscious hate
sun rays to nourish dear land of the brave
Grow a new peace and find a new way

Banish anger and ferocious warfare
Banish violence, pray to forgive and to care
Peace be a guardian,a promise to forfill
To alleviate hunger, embrace peace and goodwill

Best wishes

I think that 9/11 was a hard day for us all. I was in tears watching the news recaps and reading everyones blogs.

What a great quotation. I do think it will be strange if I should ever have to talk about it with Pumpkinpie. It will be ancient history for her, while I can't imagine ever thinking of it and not feeling what I felt that day.

sort of like JFK's assassination, I suppose, which was a big deal for the last generation and just fascinating but not emotional for mine.
