Blogger Will Be Down at 9:00 p.m. PST

If you want to post anything, now is probably the time to do it.

To "anonymous". Thanks for your comment on my January 19th post. Fortunately we've been lice free ever since but I agree with you on staying away from the chemicals. Come back and visit anytime.

Ray came home from the hospital today with lots of new prescriptions, one of which has a huge co-pay. Back to the doctor to see if he can prescribe something similar which will be covered. If not, we'll figure it out somehow.

They still don't know what's going on with him.

Halloween is now behind us, Veteran's Day is coming up with it's parade on Saturday. They have forecast rain of course. We're supposed to march but I'm not too sure how I feel about getting soaked. I did buy four small flags which I stashed in the back of the van.

And I'm beginning to think about Thanksgiving. Jim doesn't think he'll be able to get leave for that and Christmas so he'll probably opt for Christmas. Tim will be around though and all of us. Possibly Jim's older kids as well. They usually drop by with their mom. I do a very casual buffet. Whoever shows up eats (sometimes as many as 20). I've started doing a little shopping and will pick up two turkeys for the price of one sometime in the next couple of days. I'll have to spend $25 (without the turkey) to do it but that isn't difficult with my gang. I'll use turkey #2 at Christmas. I have to go through my stash of canned goods and see what I already have and what I need and then look at the sales. Almost nothing changes year to year and I can almost do it in my sleep. It's usually Jim's job to do the mashed potatoes and ham at his house so if he's not here, I may cheat and go with instant. The last minute nature of mashed potatoes when I'm trying to do everything else is a pain. I did see a recipe today that explained how to cook them ahead and reheat. Simple - just put the bowl in hot water. I didn't buy the cookbook (was surfing through it at Barnes & Noble with Tim earlier today) but I bet I can find the same idea online.

Speaking of Tim, he thanks you for the kind words about his post.

I forgot to mention Rebecca's homework assignment for election night eve. I would have thought at least one of the girls would mention that they talked about the election in school. Nope. Rebecca's assignment (for P.E. - homework in P.E?) was to watch part of the Oakland Raider's football game. She would be tested. I know just about enough football to follow the game so I sat with her and we watched. She now knows the team who has the ball is usually the offense and the other guys are trying to stop them. And she knows the difference between a punt and a place kick and what a yellow flag signifies. She also knows that she finds football intensely boring and hates "flag" football at school. If I'd known that assignment was coming up, she could have watched the 'Niners with me on Sunday. At least we won - the Raiders lost.

I choose my issues and I won't register a complaint with the school but it may come up for discussion at some point. Maybe I'm missing something but it sure seemed silly. What about the parents who either don't have t.v. or would prefer their kids not watch the rougher contact sports?

The girls have a 3 day weekend coming up and a good thing because Elcie isn't feeling well. I picked her up early today and she'll have some time to recover.

They were so funny last night. Their mom was over and the four of them were in the living room with the kareoke machine singing "American Pie" - all 93 verses. Then they liked it so well they sang it again. By that time I'd decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and went in and sang along. They're always surprised when I know some of "their" music. Kids, it was mine long before you were dreamed of.

Thanks to all for the comments. My new modem seems to have fixed some of the problems I was blaming on Firefox or Blogger or anybody I could find to blame. I have, however, picked up a hijacker which I have to eliminate at some point. Big pain and doubtless due to the girls and their downloading of games.

I'm going to post this before Blogger decides to change their mind and shut down earlier. Take care everyone.

oh, granny, you have been busy. Glad to see you up and running again. If you need any technical help, let me know and I will help in any way I can. Malware can make your life miserable.

I like all 93 verses...and driving the Chevy to the levy. :o)

My goodness, life gets crazy doesn't it?

Those meds can be so pricey. Once my insurance cancelled on me, and I needed the meds. One month, one very small bottle, $250. It's ridiculous.

Well I am glad Ray is home.
I don't even want to think about Thanksgiving. Contrary to what I thought, the in-laws are coming to our place..UGH too much mess and cooking for me.

Very glad to hear that Ray is back. Prescription medicines sure can suck.

I totally agree with you about the "homework" assignment. Don't kids have enough homework without having them watch a pro football game? Ridiculous.

Hello Ann ~ Glad that Ray is home and hope you can get another medication less
expensive. Specially as they don't seem to know what is wrong. Hope Elcie is feeling better. And homework for PE sounds ridiculous, poor Rebecca. I see you are getting in early for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We only have the latter, which is good. We should be
thanful every day. Take care Ann, glad the computer is goinf well. Love, Merle.

Hi Ann

Hope you can find a generic version of Ray's medication. It can certainly get pricey.

For the life of me I cannot see what watching a football game is going to do for Rebecca's education? What's with schools nowadays - totally crazy!

Glad you've sorted out your computer problems and tell Tim he did really well.

Enjoy your weekend and I hope you are keeping well.

Glad Ray's home, to begin with.

I'm no longer on Yahoo IM, for seconds. My computer was reformatted and trying to reload was a pain and the computer didn't seem to like it. I'm still on Google, and am on line and available from around 9:30am-5:30pm my time no matter what the damn indicator thing says (still unsure what's up with that).

The football watching homework seems pointless to me, too. Maybe they wanted to test the children's observation skills and how they are able to digest instructions...? Either way, you can tell Rebecca that she now knows WAY more about football that me, my mother, my brother and my boyfriend combined, American, English or otherwise.

:-)

Sorry Elcie's under the weather. Hope the three day weekend isn't ruined for her because of it.

I know the basic story behind it (ish. I'll have to educate myself. It's shameful how little I know about the traditions and history of other countries. ...Or my own, for that matter...), but from what I've read on Blogs, Thanksgiving sounds suspiciously like Christmas, only 1 month early and without presents. Unless there are presents.

Anyway, sounds like the sort of Christmas WE celebrate in our family: food, drink, more food and if we're not too full and drunk, party games.

We don't do presents, as a rule. Too many of us.

:-P

Anyway, just an observation.

Wow. I'm away for a week and your life becomes even more hectic than it was already. Slow DOWN woman! Take a few deep breaths and have a cup of tea.

- That's what my mum does to calm down, at least.

In case we don't catch up via IM, have a great weekend, anyhoo.

xxx

PS: I'd LOVED to have heard you singing! ;-)

If l thought l was run off my feet last week then just popping in here to say hello has changed that idea! You are the busiest lady l know :)
l really wish you and the family all the best for the upcoming holidays and hope you get some helping hands with the prep work. My hubby is a great cook so l tend to be the second in the kitchen- we work well together and it makes it all so much easier. Years ago l had to do it all myself, my ex never did things inside! lol
Hope Rae and Elcie rest well this weekend.
Bests and hugs for you rock rebel Granny xx

Well, after sympathizing with you about your modem, my internet AND cable were out last night. Still out, really, but I'm at work. My SIL had to guest post for me!

I've never heard of homework for P.E. Especially to watch TV--isn't P.E. all about staying active and healthy?

I am just appalled at that homework assignment! So many reasons, so little time...

Don't start stressing over Thanksgiving just yet! Do what I do... worry about it Wednesday night and then have a total breakdown, stay up all night cooking, fall asleep on the kitchen counter at 5 am, and forget to thaw the turkey. Oh, good times.

Oh my gosh, I can't belive how fast the days are flying. We go to my moms for Thanksgiving, so I won't have to cook at lest.

Please don't go marching in the rain.

I can get away with Stovetop stuffing, but I did instant potatoes for Thanksgiving, there would be a revolt in our house. My boys LOVE their potatoes. I keep thinking I would love to go out for Thanksgiving, but I would sooo miss the leftovers. So glad to hear Ray is home!

I can't remember my own phone number most of the time, but I have American Pie committed to memory. Funny how that works.

I';m singing along, good thing you're out of hearing range!!

there are a bunch of us singing along... sorry

when i get feeling sorry for myself for being alone, i have only to read your blog, dear lady, to end the pity party. many blessings on the Thanksgiving dinner. your place sounds like THE place to be. you can make & mash the potatos ahead of time and put them in a casserole, a couple of days ahead of time. then put them in an oven for an hour or so to heat up when you need them.

we have 1 1/2 feet of snow, for our Vetran's Day Parade tomorrow. it was -30 degrees yesterday morning, but warming slightly now. I'll be wearing my woolies, warm mitts, a scarf and a touque.

Too funny about the music. I do that to my older son all the time. He doesn't realize that a good 70% of the music he likes is just remakes of the stuff I listened to years ago. He freaks out and tells me how awful it is when he hears one of the original songs on the radio in my van.
About the prescription, alot of the drug companies have programs in place where you can get their drugs at little or no cost if you meet certain income guidelines. It might be worth looking into if he really needs that particular medicine. You can ask your pharmacist or doctor for the number to the manufacturer or google it. Hope that helps.
