It's Beginning to Sound Like Christmas - Update

Went shopping this morning with Dawn and couldn't resist the two decorations above. Nothing like bobbleheads to add a little Christmas cheer.

Jim just called. Still looks like he'll be home for Christmas and for Ray's birthday the day after. I hope the Army Nat'l Guard doesn't change their mind at the last minute. He thanks you all for the kind words about the photos even though I was making fun of his bald head. We're coordinating our holiday plans.

I tried three times to post this direct from YouTube. Trying again this way. Let's see if it works. Click on the link.

This song isn't as well known as some of the traditional Christmas music but I love it.

In red, Kathleen Battle; in green, Frederica von Stade. They performed a Christmas concert together years ago and I still have my video tape.

Update: It occurred to me that they're not singing in English. See end of post for translation.

That works but this may too. Yep, take your choice. It may be a little clearer copy from the link.

I was going to write a longer post but just looked at the time. I need to feed my starving husband (and me too).

Take care everyone and thanks for the comments.

Gesu Bambino Lyrics (English)

When blossoms flower eer mid the snows,
Upon a winter night,
Was born the child, the christmas rose,
The king of love and light.
The angels sang, the shepherds sang,
The grateful earth rejoiced;
And at his blessed birth the stars
Their exultation voiced.

Chorus:
O come let us adore him
O come let us adore him
O come let us adore him
Christ the lord.

Again the heart with rapture glows
To greet the holy night,
That gave the world its christmas rose,
Its king of love and light
Let evry voice acclaim his name,
The grateful chorus swell
From paradise to earth he came
That we with him might dwell.

Hi Ann
Delighted to see the photo of Ray who I presume is feeling much better.

Christmas is upon us! I trust it’s a joyful one for your and family. Tomorrow evening we are putting on concert for the "oldies", we will be singing that Carol and many others, some Christmas verse and engaging with our “Bell Ringers “.

Best wishes

Looks like you have a great Christmas on the way, so glad for you. Christmas seems to be almost upon us and about to catch our house not ready - but do you ever really get ready? I just set up the tree last night, hopefully we can get some decorations on it before the big day. :) ec

Good Morning Granny,
I'm glad that Jim will hopefully be home for Christmas. I do hope the National Guard doesn't change their minds either. I'm glad that Ray is still doing good. He looked very nice in the picture below. I've never heard of this song before. But there are still things that I've never heard of either. I'm not "HIP" as my girls would say. LOL. Oh well, I like my old-fashion ways better than today's stuff. I love your little Christmas decorations you have. They are just adorable. Well, take care my friend and have a great Tuesday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.
P.S. I had a cousin whose Birthday was on the 26th of December as well. He is no longer with us. He got killed in a vehicle accident back in the early 90's. My Parent's Wedding Anniversary is on Christmas Day. They will be married 48 years.

Ann, I listened to this last night, and I thought it was beautiful. It really puts me into the Christmas spirit.

I'm so glad to see you're landing on your feet. You have been through some stuff!

Cheers,
Josie

Opera (I think that's what that was) is way down my listening list, but I listened to it all, and it was pretty. I never noticed it wasn't in English until you said it.:)

I hope all goes well and you get Jim home. Tell him there's one other cueball cheering for him!:)

The link worked fine and it is a beautiful recording. That dress really needs extra parking space:)

Ann.. it was good to hear from you... yes, Christmas is coming up fast! I am ready... the house is decorated and I have all the Christmas cards done and mailed out and ready for church and family and I've also been tasting samples at Diane's this week... fudge ..chocolate and peanut butter... and pecans... made in the oven with secret ingredients.. unless Diane has them in her recipe blog ... :) but I am ready for Christmas... I have a party the next 4 nights.. so I'd better be ready! Your tree is pretty and you look like you are ready, too. Good to see your hubby is doing well... Have a good weekend... Hugs to you.. Hi Granny,
I am glad you are still there, hey you too find it harder just to talk about sobriety as well dont you, I mean as time moves on its no longer at the front of your mind.
Is it me but the thought of drinking again makes me shudder, I cannot ever go through that nightmare again, sometimes on a night I think wouldnt it be nice just to relax with a drink, well yes maybe for 15 mins then the addiction would take over..
You are very wise, I am still climbing that long ladder from the abyss

... the lyrics ARE a bit like "O Come All Ye Faithful" aren't they..?

Thanks for the message. I know Dame Kiri; she's quite well known in this country ... hit fame after singing at the wedding of Prince Charles back in 1982!

I think she has one of the finest soprano voices in the world ...
