New Scam

It's early morning and I have CNN (our biggest cable news channel for those of you outside the USA) on while I was reading email. I wish I'd been recording but I wasn't so this is what I remember of what they said.

Details are sketchy but apparently bank customers in our Midwest are receiving cell phone messages (text?) telling them their account has expired. To renew it they must log on to some web site.

When they do, all their banking info is captured.

I'm sure none of us would fall for it but whenever I see these things, I like to pass the word along. We're all accustomed to internet scams by now; apparently the cell phone gimmick is something new.

Still cold and damp here.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Unfortunately, there are always a few people who DO fall for these scams and that's such a shame. Even with eBay or PayPal, you'll sometimes get an email that looks like it's from them, saying that you must update your account and such...and to just click on the link...like the scam you're talking about, that's how they get all your info.

Glad to hear you and Ray are now over your colds...hopefully you both stay healthy now for the rest of the winter! You certainly have been busy with cleaning...always feels so good when it's done though. Hopefully you'll hear from the girls soon!! xox

Jeeze! So the scammers have progressed from snail-mail to telephone calls to email mails to texting! Ain’t that progress! Ugh!

Scammers will try anything to get someone else's money illegally. I had an email last week purporting to come from the Inland Revenue of the USA saying I owed them money. I realised it was a scam, not only because I know for sure I don't owe the US tax department any money, but when I looked at the email address it was a Yahoo one. As if the US tax dept would use a Yahoo address!

It is cold and rainy here today. They promised us snow by 4 pm ... but so far nothing but rain. Brrrr!!

Glad y'all are doing ok. Think I'll go back and finish reading my book..LOL

Granny,

Thanks for warning us about the scam. I constantly warn my mother (she's 80) not to talk to people on the phone. She was scammed once, but she trusts everyone. We have to keep warning her.

Thanks for entering my giveaway. You never know if you'll win if you don't enter. Good luck.

Sorry I haven't been over to visit. I'm still recuperating from our vacation.

Blessings,
Mary

Dear Ann ~~ Yet another scam; seems they are always with us. Pity those scammers didn't get a job and earn an honest living. Thanks for wishing Robyn a happy day and it is STILL the 20th here, just after 6 pm. I am about to have something to eat and do a post. Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

I often think that the people who think up these scams have such inginuity...If ALL of them would only use this genius for The Good of Msnkind, maybe all the ills of the world would be solved!
GREED is certinly a powerful powerful motivator....! It boggles the mind!

Thanks for the warning. There are so many nice and trusting people out there who could fall for a scam like that.

If I had recieved a call like that I would have called my bank and asked to speak to my friend there. I don't trust any of those type of messages. Thanks for the "heads up" though. It 's cold here today too, we are supposed to get the "wet" tomorrow.

Since you do My Space and know a lot of parent/children bloggers, maybe some would post the baby raper/baby stealer bulletin from one of Kristy's My Space commenters. These %$#**&#
need to be CAUGHT and the more they are publicized, the better chance of somebody recognizing them. Kristy's My Space url is on the Kaleb post on IAB (I'm sure you've seen it). I posted on it but nobody reads my blog but lots of people read yours.

PS: I for got to add when you click on Kristy's My Space url, then click on her title to post " a totally different baby" to reach the post where Tim comments and posts his bulletin on the baby rapers/baby stealers.

Hi Ann,
I got my hotmail account at mpschofield@hotmail.co.uk which I am in usually every night to talk on instant messaging.
However tonight as you know is my meeting night and I cant wait to see Veras again, something about her really attracts me, I guess its her down to earth attitude to life, despite 16 yrs of sobriety she doent seem like a tibetan monk!
I hope I am lucky enough to find a partner soon, I ask my HP every morning, acknowledging his will and all that.
Well its Blue Monday here in the UK and its been non stop rain for weeks now.
Oh thanks for the warning about the bank, we are continually bombarded by the bank to ignore these scams

This seems to be one of only two ways to make money in this country.

Either you scam people or you're lucky enough to be born with the right last name.

God Bless capitalism!

Good Evening Granny,
"THANK YOU" for warning us about this Scam. Some people will just do anything to get a dollar. It just makes me so sick that people will actually do this stuff. These kind of people need to be stopped for sure. They really do it to the elderly tho. Okay, I won't go into the preaching thing. LOL. It was a bitterly cold weekend here. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory for late tonight and into the morning. They say we may get some freezing rain. Take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

Love & Hugs,
Karen H.

Is it raining up your way?

I'm so happy that you and Ray are doing so well. It's a little sad that you haven't spoken to the girls, though. Youth can sometimes forget so quickly, but I hope that isn't the case.

Ann, I think that is called phishing, and it's very common. Wherever there is technology, there will be people who will take advantage of it. Folks have to be very vigilant.

Looking Forward to your next post

And all this time I thought it didn't rain in California - or was that Southern California? :) We have finally gotten some rain here and the pond has at last covered the islands with water. ec

In relation to your previous post, I remember as a youngster in the country picking mushrooms from the paddocks in the early morning. You needed to be careful to ensure you did not include poisonous toadstools, so I recall feeling quite pleased about my parents apparent trust in my judgment as they nonchalantly tossed the contents into the saucepan to cook for breakfast
Scams will continue infinnitim as there seems no limit to the ingenuity of those involved!

Trust you and your extended family are all well
