George Orwell

Title: George Orwell

P. S. Elcie is now watching a cartoon version of "Animal Farm" with me. It's British and I've never seen it although I've almost memorized the book. I'm corrupting her already. Wait - yes I have seen it. It's good. I can hardly wait to introduce her to "1984" and Huxley's "Brave New World".

I think you are right, Brave New World and 1984 should be taught together. Especially now.

Karl, The problem with both those books (always was) is that they can both be (especially 1984) used to promote opposed points of view.

The "Red Menace" of the 50's has become, to me, our government of today. I agree that they should be taught, at least by high school. College would probably be too late. If I had to choose one that should wave a "red flag" in front of our kids, it would be 1984 even though I've always considered them a matched set.
