Afterthought - isn't there always?

I call all the girls motormouth. Wonder who they inherited that from. Strange; in person I'm usually the quiet one in any group (unless I have the gavel). Having my own blog may be the internet equivalent of a gavel.

The S. F Gay Men's Chorus is coming to Modesto (40 miles north) in December. Tim and I splurged on discount tickets through PFLAG and at least 12 of us (maybe more) will carpool. The Modesto PFLAG President is holding a reception after the performance. We can call it our Christmas present to each other I guess and I'll cut back somewhere else.

I think I covered everything, at least for now. Another vigil on Friday afternoon.
Roller skating for R & R tonight if I can talk their mom into taking them again and if they can finish up homework in time. I know Rochelle will but Rebecca?
We'll see.

good morning! (PS... this is really long! I do apologize in advance...)

first, I guess I am unclear, or missing something... did you live in the UK? most of the US chains are within the confines of town or city centres, but a few have found their ways to the edges of town... Ripon has a McD's just on the bypass that goes around Ripon, and there is a strip mall kind of thing that is along another bypass, the A658, going around H'gate. it has 4 big-ish shops, car dealership and a McD's, with drive thru. Burger King can be found in Leeds and York, and Subway is available too.

No taco bell...

macaroni salad and bread sticks... the girls had them at lunch today...

it's such a different system, because if you aren't going on to uni, then at 16 you are out. in fact, the NHS only provides free prescriptions for under 18's if you are in school. if you have lefte, they are the usual 6.40 pounds.

there is a big push to keep kids in school, and get more into uni, but truthfully, it's more theoretical than anything, because of the mindset of people. it's so easy for them to fall through the cracks that the govt is trying to fill...

but then, it's like that in the US too. one of my brothers was into petty crime, and would have been on the fast track to prison if not for getting into juvenile hall and becoming a volunteer fireman. nearly 15 years on, he's doing really well. but his story is not the rule...

my other brother is what typically happens... dropped out, got into drugs, dead before 25.

it just seems that here, young people can slip into poverty more easily, in that you begin there, and there is this underlying acceptance of your 'place' in society, whether it is high or low. very little stigma held against the working class or poor. very strange...

and the bootstrap thing, well, I used that because it's typically American, to be able to do things on our own. whether it's with war, poverty, etc... we've been a nation that has done it all by ourselves. you don't have that mentality here.... all will be taken care of.

personally for me, as someone with faith in God as love, this idea of doing everything on my own is just not applicable. but it took me getting out of the US to start to realize that...

but now I'm digressing...

and I've turned this into a post. :)

I hope you don't mind long comments... I know I don't!
