Just Checking In

Midnight and beddy-bye for me.

Thanks to all of you for the comments on the girls' pictures. It may be considered gauche to brag about our kids but as I said on another blog earlier today, I'm a granny - that's different. It's okay to drag out the pictures.

Ray still doing well and I've had a normal day except for oversleeping this morning. Elcie missed her bus for the first time in a couple of years I think and I drove her to school. A little late but she got there. I think I woke up ahead of the alarm and turned it off and went back to bed without ever waking up.

Went to our PFLAG meeting tonight. We watched a video called "Your Mother is a Lesbian, Here's Your Lunch, Now Go to School. It's the story of a former minister (at least former in her church at that time, she may still be a minister) who "came out" while she was still married with children. Her ex- husband stood with her every step of the way after their divorce and her children obviously adore her. Her parents and twin sister were part of the video and talked about the change in their viewpoints over the years. It was beautiful.

We talked (generally) about families; the ones who love and support their kids and the ones who don't. I can't imagine not loving my kids (even my problem kids - not you Tim or Jim) and it breaks my heart to hear some of the stories. With some, it was the elephant in the living room; never mentioned. With others, their families had disowned and turned against them.

I just don't get it.

We're still working on getting all three girls in the same school. I can ask the District for a change in school assignment for Rebecca. I'll plead unusual circumstances and see if anyone is listening. If she could ride the bus with Rochelle, fine; otherwise, I'll drive the two of them. I could drive Elcie but handling her wheelchair in and out twice a day is too much for me. Possibly she could leave it at school during the week which is what we did in elementary.

My eyes are closing - probably trying to tell me to call it a night.

I'll see you tomorrow.

Good luck with sorting out the school problem. I sympathize with you so strongly. As soon as I can post again, I feel another rant about education (not caused by you) is coming up.

That story about the Minister does sound beautiful. That's what the ignorant and narrow minded can never understand: you can be brown, white, pink, blue, gay, hetrosexual, bisexual (not to sure about that one to be honest. Gays are fine, but this just seems greedy to me...?) and it doesn't matter - you are still a person, and more often than not still a valuable one, a good human being. Your sexuality, colour and creed do not define you. Your personality and the way your mind is wired defines who you are, what kind of person you are, and what kind of parent you are.

Be back again later, hopefully.

You know, I don't think I EVER missed the bus. Not once, in all my years of school. How in the world did that happen?!

Good luck with the school thing. I know how important (and difficult) that sort of thing is. That's the reason we still live in our tiny house. We can't find another to suit our specifications in this school district. And I'm not leaving this district!

I had never heard of PFLAG until I read your site. See? You broadened my horizons. I have no issues with anyone, unless they have issues with me. Unfortunately, my views are not the popular ones around here. I am definitely in the minority...

I must be getting tired too, I just wrote a comment and then lost it.
Last night I had a great deal of trouble trying to get the computer to co-operate, I tried to post and it just vanished, however overnight it had a change of heart and posted for me, so thanks for your visit.

I have other "Walter"stories but wiill save them for another day.

Your girls are so lovely, how lucky they are to have you in their life. Education dept., are not the easiest to get on with, so I wish you luck in your endeavours.
Have a wonderful Easter.

I tried to comment yesterday on the great pictures of the girls but for some reason blogger didn't want to let me do that. So I will do it this morning instead. They are great and really turned out well, I think your girls are just plain gorgeous.
I don't get it either about not loving our kids.
A woman I knew once said to me that she already knew she didn't love her kids unconditionally (they were 2 and 5 at the time. If they did things that she didn't like than she couldn't help it, she said, she didn't love them at that time.

It made my blood run cold.

Dear Gran,
I just stopped in to say hi and leave an angry comment on Burning?
I agree with Jaws, you've got a right to brag. Those girls are beautiful and look older than I thought. Those are six intense eyes!
