Here's to the Grannies Everywhere Update)

Granny Fiddler, Granny P., Granny Insanity, Merle, Jo, Sonja, and any of you I may have missed.

Zounds and gadzooks!! I forgot my good friend, Worried American with whom I share the "other" blog. Sorry, WA.

You grandpas (
Lindsay, Mr. Eddie, VMC,) (Anvilcloud - you there yet?) who want to wear purple with a red hat, feel free but you might forego the satin sandals. Unless of course, that's your thing.

All the rest of you enjoy it too.

From Jacqui in Bridgetown, West Australia.

WHEN I AM OLD I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
WITH A RED HAT THAT DOESN'T GO,
AND DOESN'T SUIT ME, AND I SHALL SPEND MY PENSION ON
BRANDY AND SUMMER GLOVES, AND SATIN SANDALS, AND SAY WE'VE NO MONEY FOR BUTTER.

I SHALL SIT DOWN ON THE PAVEMENT WHEN I AM TIRED
AND GOBBLE UP SAMPLES IN SHOPS AND PRESS ALARM BELLS
AND MAKE UP FOR THE SOBRIETY OF MY YOUTH.

I SHALL GO OUT IN MY SLIPPERS IN THE RAIN
AND PICK THE FLOWERS IN OTHER PEOPLES GARDENS
AND LEARN TO SPIT.

YOU CAN WEAR TERRIBLE SHIRTS AND GROW MORE FAT
AND EAT THREE POUNDS OF SAUSAGES AT A GO OR
EAT PICKLES FOR A WEEK.

AND HOARD PENS AND PENCILS AND BEER MATS AND
THINGS IN BOXES.

BUT NOW WE MUST HAVE CLOTHES THAT KEEP US DRY AND PAY
THE RENT AND NOT SWEAR IN THE STREET
AND SET GOOD EXAMPLES FOR THE CHILDREN.

WE MUST HAVE FRIENDS TO DINNER AND READ THE PAPERS.

BUT MAYBE I OUGHT TO PRACTICE A LITTLE NOW/
SO PEOPLE WHO KNOW ME ARE NOT TOO SHOCKED AND SURPRISED
WHEN SUDDENLY I AM OLD AND START TO WEAR PURPLE.

Dear Ann ~~ A terrific poem that I had
not seen before.
Did you know that Jacqui is my sister-in
law, and my brother Peter's first wife?
Thanks so much for posting this, it sure
fits with how things are. Thanks for
including me as a granny. It is a nice
thing to be. Take care, Merle.

Just this last weekend I ran into a group of ladies in purple trimmed in red and with red hats - they just get together and have fun. I've seen several of those groups around here, that's not just a southern thing is it? ec

The Red Hat Society ladies are everywhere here, always with laughs and smiles all around.

They always look like they are enjoying themselves so much. Hurrah to them, they deserve it!

Hi Ann,

That poem makes getting older sound like fun!

I have seen the red hat club in Fresno, so I don't think they are a southern thing.
