School Days

Me, Rebecca, and Rochelle waiting for the bus at Hoover Middle School (that gray building looking very like a jail in the background). I put both shots on of the girls; one almost smiling and one that shows how they really feel. (Kidding - they'd been laughing until I pointed the camera - they were embarrassed by grannie pointing a camera - totally uncool).

I came home in time to catch Elcie waiting. When her nice driver saw what I was doing he suggested we get a picture of her on the lift.

I may join a writing class for seniors. David, my Tuesday coffee date (which now includes my friend Janet - we're growing) teaches it (correction - no he doesn't; it's even better - next post if I remember) and it sounds like fun. I'll check it out today. It starts at nine. Perhaps my blog quality will improve.

Today I take Ray to the doctor a little before one, pick up Tim (son), pick up Elcie at Rivera with wheelchair, go to the elementary school which houses the physical therapy unit. They have her new crutch tips (she really goes through them), will fix the crutch holder on her chair, and possibly measure her for the new electric. Maybe we can finally get one that works. This will be our third try.

Oh, a friend will pick Ray up. I won't leave him stranded at the doctor's office. Busy day.

Rebecca had no homework last night. Finished it all in class. She's so proud of herself and she should be. Elcie asked her teacher for more math homework. It's all review but it will help her speed with simple calculations. Once all of them learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide in their heads, their work will go three times as fast (at least). The finger counting really slows them down. I'm hoping for a good math year for all.

I'll try to get back later but wanted to get the pictures up.

Take care everyone.

Your blog quality is fine, but I bet you would enjoy that writing class. Let me know what you do.

We did Open House last night. I really like both of the teachers.

The writing class sounds so cool! I was just reading Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird, and she recommends finding writing buddies (she doesn't call them that).

Look at the crabby faces! That's too funny! Especially since they're smiling in the next photo and you can tell the sourness is fake...

Love the stripey outfit. Love it, love it, love it.

I bet a writing class would be fun!

I took a writing class from Natalie Goldberg about six years ago. She told us to try and get together with classmates outside of class and do writing practice once a week or more if possible. One of the gals and I have been meeting weekly ever since and become fast friends.

Enjoy your class!

Lovely family you have there. Beautiful grandchildren that you obviously care about very deeply.

Girls! What is the deal with being soooo oh, I don't know, uppity about getting their pictures taken when they are teens or almost teens? I am sure there are very few women who don't have a matching picture like your girls somewhere!

Kids go to school on Monday here.

I am so looking forward to it.

Of course bioboys have day school and Evan has night school, so I won't ever be rid of them all at once. Sigh.

I still do math by counting on my fingers. Kids have a lot more to learn than in my day. Glad they like school. The photos are great even if they did frown at you in that last one.

The writing class does sound like fun. I hope you decide to go.

THe girls in their pictures look a bit irritated. I am glad you added in you post why. I am grateful I'm not yet at the point of being uncool for taking pictures of my kids.

I also think you would enjoy taking the class as well.

I hope your girls enjoy school more than the pictures showed. And I hope the mess with he buses are all sorted out now. Also I'm glad Ray has that ride, and it give you a brake as well.

Ann,

taking any class will be good for your self development. In addition to helping with your writing, it's that learning atmosphere that is so stimulating, and the people you usually meet in such situations are also stimulating and good to get to know.

I am glad to see that it doesn't matter what coast you are on (or what age) but the pout comes out as soon as the camera comes out.

Great pictures! And wow, Elcie's legs look sooooooooo long!!!

The pictures are great (and you look good in shorts, you cow. My legs look terrible in shorts; How do you look good in shorts???) - they are so TALL!

Hope the therapy goes well for Ray, and congratulations to both Elcie and Rebecca for finishing classwork and doing extra to help learning respectively (although, Elcie, darling; asking for MORE maths work? Why, dear? Just, why?) - and this line really tugged at my heart, for some reason:

"I guess the tooth fairy is gone forever."

*sniff!*

Seriously. That is so sad...
