Sunday Night - Updated around 1:30 a.m.

I spent much of today working on the laundry. I know - you don't want to hear it. Don't worry, I'm not caught up yet. In order to make space I have to rearrange drawers once again. But not today.

In between - not much of anything. Early this evening I took Tim (younger son) over to their old house to pick up what we hope is the last of their belongings. Jim left for San Diego before he could finish it all. I picked up some milk, etc. at the same time and we stopped for a sandwich before I dropped him back off.

Jim's called me several times since he left. Once to ask the population of El Centro (around 40,000) where he'll be stationed, once I think I mentioned before to tell me he was passing the baseball stadium in San Diego, and then to ask me what desert he was in (Mojave?). He was headed for the nearest Barnes & Noble (Yuma, AZ), about a 45 minute drive from El Centro and a long way to go just to use his employee discount. (It's good as long as he's on military leave).

He called me once when he was living and working in Bakersfield (he managed the bar at the Red Lion) to ask who played tight end for the SF 49ers (pro football). I said Brent Jones (no computer then, I just knew). Bar bet? Nope, just some guy trying to remember who it was and Jim drawing a blank as well. The guy asked him if he called a sports desk at a newspaper. "Nope, I called my mommy". Some things never change but at least he didn't wait until 2:00 a.m. to do it. Tim does it too. I have this annoying memory for useless information which crowds out the memory of where I put my coffee cup last.

Nobody's asleep yet. Elcie's listening to music in the living room and the other two are across the street on the front porch with their friends (and the telephone). I'll call them home in a few more minutes. Meantime I can see them from my front door and there's an adult out there with them. Update - they're in and sound asleep.

Maybe tomorrow we'll start edging back toward a school schedule. This is the first year we haven't stayed with their earlier bedtime but for most of the summer it's been too hot to sleep until at least 11.

There's a recipe post right below this one. I thought I'd published it yesterday and realized a few minutes ago that I'd missed a tiny bit of code in the link. Oops.

My Giants won. Amazing. Crawling back up out of the cellar again. I still think my presence at the game a couple of weeks ago jinxed them.

Hi to Kristen a working mom from Home on the Fringe.

And belated hi to Kendra Lynn of Michigan, mom of two little girls.

And thanks as usual for all the comments.

Take care everyone.

I'm so glad I don't have school age kids, getting them to bed and back up was always so hard. Sounds like your blog roll is growing. I will try and visit them soon

We are starting the school schedule this week because school starts next week. It is painful...so painful....

I'm grown with 2 kids, and I still tend to call my parents for information before I'll attempt to look it up. 9 times out of 10 they know the answer, or they know enough that I'm satisfied in the moment...

You must be good at Trivial Pursuit.

I'm glad I've past the school time. I only had one child, a boy.
Laundry, this I always have loads of them. I do my laundry every 4 days and at 2 in the morning. I hope you don't find me crazy but there's a story to it.

Hello Ann ~ Glad at last you are taking time off. Don't get dressed is a good idea. You are lucky to have a good memory and that the boys still ask for your help. How is Carol ? Hope she is OK again. Thanks for yur comments and the joke. Take care, Hygs, Merle.

I don't have to deal with the school schedule problem yet - my kids have always gotten up by 7:00 a.m., usually earlier. We'll see if that's still true when they're teenagers, though...

My girls are still goin' to bed too late as well.
We just keep busy until late in the summertime. None of us got up until 9:30 this morning, either.
That's gotta stop! LOL
Take care and have a great day.

Kendra

p.s. thanks for mentioning me in the post. :)

I'm back! Yes, I've been seeing all of the back to school commercials. I remember what it's like to try to change the schedules of going to bed, getting up, eating, homework and all that jazz. It's always hard the first month or so. Good luck!!!!!

The sports fans and jinx theories always fascinate me. Once I was sitting with Hubba-hubba at a Yankee/Angels game and a no-hitter was in progress. Unthinking, I uttered "Do you think we will get to see a no hitter?" Hubba-hubba almost had a heart attack right there. In my defense, it was only the third innning.

What a great mom you are...even know all the sports answers! lol Your kids must get a kick out of that:-) Laundry...seems there's never any end to it, doesn't it?! I swear the laundry multiplies while I'm sleeping!!! Hope the girls can soon start a regular earlier night routine before school starts...but like you said, it's so hard to sleep when the temps are so hot! Hugs!!

It amazes me how you keep up with everyone! And as I had mentioned to IPM back in the archives of time, I appreciate how you write - much like how my Mom kept our family diary... only with the occasional picture!

What a relief not to have to get up to take the kids to school anymore or to have to go to work. Now I don't even have to get up if I don't want to...but now I'm so excited about not having to do anything that I get up just to enjoy every minute of the day.

It's nice that your son still calls you...he knows mom has all the answers.

Hi Granny. I havent' been here in a while (hand is doing better these days), but I'm glad to see that things haven't changed much here. They haven't with me, either.

I know what you mean about laundry. I think it never ends. Of course, we could try being nudists, but with my body, I'd better abandon that idea. :-)

School in the South tends to start earlier than most places, so kids in Memphis went back today--not a good idea in the heat, I think. Heat usually tends to make people crabby.

I am like you; I have gone through by life gathering all sorts of useless trivia and storing it in my brain. I could tell you how many kings of England have been named George, but if I had to tell you when my utility bill is due, I'd never be able to wring that date out of my head. If I don't make a list of stuff like that, I won't remember it at all.

Is it almost back to school again already ... goodness, that's gone quick. Hope the weather starts to cool down a little before the kids go back to school ... it is so hard for them to concentrate when they are sweltering !!
Hope you have a wonderful week. Take care, Meow

Ever since you wrote that you know a bit about Aussie Rules football, I sat up and took notice. It's one thing for me, American-born living in Australia for more than 30 years to get interested in this absolutely unique brand of football, but for someone living outside Australia it is quite unusual to find. Now I see that you can be relied on for the odd sports trivia knowledge. What a legend you are!

Hi Ann,

I've got a weird memory for facts too. Too bad it didn't help me in school though.

My kids love getting way off schedule over summer. They go to bed late & sleep until 10am. I told them this week that had to start getting up at 8 & next week they need to get up at 7, but I ended up letting them sleep until 10 again. I think I will use a hammer to get them to bed earlier tonight.;)

Hello Ann ~ Thank you so much for keeping my cousin Kath in your prayers
and for comments. By all means use the potato sack joke and any others. We have
a lot of the same readers, but you have others. Thanks for your e mails. J had trouble posting again last night, but finally Blogger relented. Soon be school, is it a little cooler?
Take care, Merle.

Hi again Ann ~ Thanks for your comments
I find the crockpot isn't as hot as cooking on the stove even in Summer.
Glad you are getting back to it . The chicken thighs and honey B.B.Q sauce
sounds delish. Lots of recipes if you Google Crockpot recipes. Take care, Hugs
Merle.
