Quick Note

We're settling into a routine of sorts around here. Ray had a barely okay day yesterday but a very good one today. He's walking a little more and they've cut back on his insulin as along as his test results are at acceptable levels. What that means is one long lasting shot in the morning but as long as the test levels don't dip too far during the day, that's the only shot (except for that nasty testing) he'll need each day. I'm crossing my fingers. He's eating well, his breathing seems better already, and he's very glad to be home. He still can't get into the shower but Physical Therapy has ordered him a bench which should make it easier. We've been doing the sponge bath thing, especially on the incisions.

I've learned a lot just in a couple of days about blood sugar. He seems to have a tendency to have low levels which is why they cut the insulin back. The first day it really dipped and tonight before dinner it was a little low but it went right back up again.

I can't hang around the computer too much because, even in this small house, it's hard to hear him with the kitchen separating us. I've read all your comments and emails but may not get back to you until I'm sure he's stable enough for me to be in here for any length of time. Same thing with all your blogs. I'll read when I can but a little at a time.

Right now, we're watching the Cubs and the RockiesDiamondbacks (oops - Rockies played earlier today) and since I have online friends in both cities, I'm a little torn. Arizona has won a World Series - Chicago still suffers from a jinx, so deep down I hope Chicago pulls it out.

I've been talking to Rochelle and Rebecca almost every night and now they can talk to Grandpa too. They were both worried. They've been running the mile. Rebecca came in first in her class yesterday and Rochelle did today. Rochelle has always been the athlete but tiny Rebecca is catching up fast. Rochelle made the Honor Roll and Rebecca came close. She missed one science project and now that she's made it up, her grade may go up.

Rebecca wrote me a poem and wrote an essay about me for her Language Arts class. Rochelle sang me a song she'd composed.

Elcie hasn't had much to say. I hope eventually that will change.

We're doing well, all things considered.

Thanks again to all of you for the support. I'll be back around visiting as soon as I have a little more time.

Take care everyone.

I'm sure I can speak for all of us when I say take care of yourself and Ray. Your blog and your buddies will be here when you're able to get back to us. No hurries, no worries. Just concentrate on taking care of Ray and yourself.

Glad you've both been able to talk to Rochelle and Rebecca. I'm sure Elcie will come around eventually.

Hugs to you and Ray. ;-)

Glad to hear that Ray, Rebecca, and Rochelle are all making good progress. I know the girls must have been thrilled that their Grandpa was well enough for phone calls again.

I'm glad Ray is doing better and better. Please remember to take good care of Ann. Caregivers need to stay well or they can't give care. Hugs,

Dear Ann ~~ So very glad to hear that things are looking up at last for you and Ray. And great to hear from the girls often. Any chance of posting Rebecca's poem and/or essay? Not too long until she turns 12. A song from Rochelle was lovely too. Elcie is most likely feeling guilty still. Anyway it is great that you and Ray are settled and going so well. Don't worry about a reply, or commenting.Just please an occasional post about how you all are. Much love, my friend. Merle.

The news about Ray sounds good and it's good that you have enough time to give us updates. The girls running track is a good thing - most kids don't get nearly enough exercise. ec

I am a needle sissy. I have to close my eyes when they draw blood from me for tests, or I'm right on the floor! I'm sure glad to hear Ray's improving, and the girls are talking!! Hang on Ann....just keep hanging on!:)

When MTL was ill in bed I gave him a little brass bell to shake when he needed me. However I was up and down so often he didn't need to use it.

Ann, I'm so glad to hear things are starting to look up for you. My gosh, you have had a run of it!

I'm glad to hear the children are doing okay as well. Take care of yourselves.

Sounds like the kids are doing more than fine, sweet lady. They must make you proud, eh? Glad Ray is slowly progressing - I'm sure being home will speed the healing process up no end. Don't fret about visiting anyone's blog, that's the last thing any of us expect right now. Concentrate on looking after Ray and yourself, we'll still be here when you're ready. ((hugs))

I've been absent and have been reading several of your back posts and I'm sorry to hear all that has been going on, but I'm glad that Ray is doing well and home now. Maybe everything will get back to normal.

My son & DIL are both diabetic so I'm familiar with the disease and with giving the shots. Jimmy's mom also had it. I'm sure you'll do just fine and you'll have help from those home health agencies & physical therapists too. It sounds like Ray's sugar problem is just temporary, so that's good.

Take care of yourself and don't worry about emailing me back or reading my blog. Take care of things there at home. I understand how life sometimes gets hectic and busy and blogging gets put on the back burner to do when there is time.

Good that your talking to Rochelle & Rebecca every night and I'm sure that Elcie will come around and have more to say later.

You, Ray & the girls are in my prayers.

Ann!
Wish Ray all the best. I have to say, not visiting her often makes for an interesting read ..woman, there always something going on..
well, that could be good or bad but consider it good. You've got something to talk about and you're not having the sedate life of teas and toast.. although I'm sure that some days you could do with just that,
hope you will be able to take care of yourself as well though. As women, we take care of ourselves last and we soo need breaks. (or massages!) hope your grand kids are doing ok as well and you little lady, needs to take a soaking bath or some kind of indulgence.. don't forget about you too ok?
hugs
Ingrid

Don't you worry about leaving comments, Ann. Those of us who care (and there are lots) will know you've visited and that's ok. I'm glad Ray is home now, he probably will be a bit weak for a while but at least he's breathing better and is feeling better.

I'm so happy the girls seem to be settled and that they're doing so well at school. It's sad about Elcie...but she'll come around eventually.

Take care, Ann, you're both in my thoughts and prayers.
