Coretta Scott King

I know I've said before that I was living in Memphis when Dr. King died. I was involved with the civil rights movement of the 60's and early 70's. Mostly behind the scenes licking stamps for CORE but at least doing something.

I posted her biography from the New York Times on isamericaburning and I won't repeat it here. What I remember most over the years was her courage, her beauty, and her dignity. She never missed a beat in Memphis although she must have been overcome with grief. She picked up his fallen banner and carried it bravely through the next almost 40 years.

I just heard a quote from her on CNN. "I did not marry a man, I married a vision". She made the vision her own.

Horrible that today Alito was confirmed.

The real State of the Union under an administration who has opposed everything that she fought for is a bitter pill to swallow.

Of course, I haven't seen anyone mentioning that on the news....

The Speech tonight is forecasted to be "upbeat."

what an amazing lady... couldn't believe when Ted, sitting at the comp, announced she had died...

the Times today ran a story that mainly said the wounding of the ABC reporter in Iraq might cast a cloud over Bush's speech tonight. that was an interesting article to read...

I just can't listen to Bush... so glad I'm over here!!!

Oddly enough, the Memphis news has had very little coverage of Mrs. King's death. With Atlanta just 5 hours away, I would have thought all the TV stations here would send reporters. It has really surprised me.

It is odd that Alito got confirmed today, with him being the one who thinks Brown v. Board of Ed should be overturned. If that happens, I hope every minority in America innundates him with email, petitions, etc, and I will be right there with them. Every day I feel more like I live in a dictatorship.

Ditto what Elizabeth said, except every day I feel more like I live in a theocracy.
